Beginning with the very first iteration of the modern Northwestern University Model United Nations conference, NUMUN I, in the spring of 2004, NUMUN has been proud to uphold a noteworthy legacy of Model UN at Northwestern University that was initially started as early as 1947. As we kick off our 15th annual conference, we are honored to once again bring together delegates from across the country and around the world.
The NUMUN experience is truly unique in every sense of the word. Hosted at Northwestern’s Evanston campus, both Model UN novices and veterans alike can shine on the breathtaking shores of Lake Michigan. NUMUN also provides an unparalleled opportunity to work together in smaller cabinet style committees, larger forums that mirror global organizations, and even those in between. We offer traditional, specialized, crisis-oriented, historical, and non-UN committees, with topics that allow delegates to engage deeply with the real world issues developing in real time – or to rewrite history if they so choose. Each year, our staff of nearly 100 of Northwestern’s most passionate globally-minded students work their hardest to thoroughly research and prepare materials for debate and crisis, resulting in a wonderful educational and rewarding opportunity for everyone involved.
We are especially grateful to Norris University Center for playing host to our conference each year. Norris provides a number of dining options, and allows delegates to experience the feel of a world-class research university. Delegates and advisors stay in hotels in downtown Evanston, where they can take advantage of a diverse array of dining options and have an opportunity to explore Evanston’s distinctive local businesses. NUMUN provides buses between Norris and the hotels each day, although many groups take advantage of the short 10-15 minute walk from their hotel to the conference.
Once you decide to register, our talented Secretariat members will provide as seamless an experience as possible, from providing lodging arrangements to coordinating country assignments. Our size allows us to promise rapid personalized communication from both myself and Kate Schlough, our Director of Registration, to meet all of your needs. Conference opens on Thursday evening and runs until the awards ceremony on Sunday, leaving Thursday morning and Sunday afternoon for free travel. Northwestern is accessible by two public transit trains (Metra-Davis stop and CTA-Davis stop), and is just 20-40 minutes away from O’Hare airport, Megabus Station Chicago, and Amtrak Chicago.
Whether you are a delegate, high school adviser, or interested college student, we cannot wait to show you what NUMUN has to offer. Take a look around our website, and contact us if there is anything we can do to help. Feel free to email me with any questions that you might have, I would be more than happy to talk about what we do here at NUMUN. Thank you, Go ‘Cats, and we hope to see you soon!
